Healthy Thanksgiving Tips
eThanksgiving is known for being a time to spend with family, friends, & loved ones. We give thanks for the many blessings we have and celebrate our time together. For many it is also known as a time for over eating, weight gain, and stress. We often find ourselves communing around the dinner table, like we once did as children, enjoying our traditional family favorites. Although we enjoy the time with the people we love and the celebration shared we often find ourselves feeling tired, sluggish, over weight, and unmotivated to continue with the health goals we had obtained throughout the year. So we have some tips to keeping the thanksgiving holiday fun without all the back lash.
1. Make Time For Fitness:
This does not mean lose your valuable sleep or time with your loved ones by spending countless hours in the gym. We have some creative ideas that can help motivate you and even inspire others to join you. Try organizing a family game of touch football or activities like backyard games to get yourself and others involved in the physical fun. Try walking often. Take a brisk walk in the morning or after meals. Even try inviting someone you haven't had enough time to chat with and ask them to join you. This is a good way to stay active as well as spend quality time with your family and friends.
2. Eat Like a Cow:
A little different then it may sound, this doesn't mean to gorge or over eat. This means graze all day. Try to keep your meals smaller by eating off the fruit, veggie platters and salad dishes all day long. If you try this once you sit down to the less nutritious family favorites you will find yourself eating less and staying full longer. It is good for your metabolism and will help fight the cravings for the things that you normally desire during this holiday.
3. Drink A Lot:
Of Water that is! Staying hydrated is one of the most important things you can do for your body to keep your tummy full and your energy up. It's my recommendation to stay away from all the sodas and sugary drinks that are readily available during this holiday season and just drink water! Deny the juice at breakfast or a midday beer and substitute that for water for all or most of the day. Saving those empty calories from the sugary drinks to be better used during the holiday party or dinner where you then enjoy a traditional favorite or cocktail.
4. Be as Picky as You Want:
When scanning the holiday menu or buffet table use discretion and be picky. We often find ourselves wanting to try "a little" of everything. Instead this year try only eating portions of the foods you truly desire. This will help you not over eat but still find yourself completely satisfied. Sometimes less is more!
5. Be a Advocate of Health:
Often guests are asked to bring an item of food to share pot luck style. Try taking this opportunity to do a healthy twist on a family favorite. They can be equally as delicious and much more nutritious. Some ideas like Mashed Cauliflower instead of mashed potatoes, Roasted Sweet Potatoes instead of Candied Yams, Yogurt Sauce instead of Ranch Dip, or even something as simple as Sprouted Grain Dinner Rolls instead of Regular Rolls. When you make these subtle changes people take notice and who knows maybe next year everyone will try it. At the very least you have a healthy substitute on your plate when you sit down to eat.
Thanksgiving is all about spending quality time with the people we love and showing gratitude for the wonderful blessings we have. One of the most important gifts we have is our health. So following some of these simple steps can be the ultimate way of showing gratitude for our bodies as well as keep you feeling healthy and vibrant to partake in the most important part of the holiday...... Loving the people around us! So this Thanksgiving lets spend more time focusing on what comes out of our mouths as opposed to the next thing we are going to put in it!

Do you suffer from frequent Gas & Bloating? Bloating can be annoying, unsightly, uncomfortable and often time embarrassing. CUT OUT SUGAR-
White Sugar is a culprit. White Sugar causes candida which is an overgrowth of bad bacteria that lives and breeds in the colon. Candida causes Gas & Bloating when it is given a food source, sugar is an amazing food source for both candida and parasites. Parasites who live off of sugar can also cause frequent gas and bloating. Take away the food source and you may see a decrease in gas and bloating.
CUT BACK ON WHITE FLOUR AND GRAINS-
Like Sugar, White flour and ecsessive grains can feed candida and parasites. Again, cutting out the food source can help to reduce the symptoms. Most grains also contribute to a significant amount of food allergies. Food Allergies can be the root cause of gas, bloating, & inflammation in the digestive track. Sometimes a simple food allergy test can help you cut out these and other foods that may be the cause of your gas and bloating.
TRY DIGESTIVE ENZYMES-
Often times when we lack enough digestive enzymes to break down the foods we eat our small intestines will create gas and bloating. There is plenty of enzymes in veggies and fruits. Try increasing your fruits and vegetables intake to naturally increase your enzyme levels. Papaya Enzymes which you can find in Papaya's is also very helpful. The Right Kind of Vegan
Vegan Diet was the decided diet for week one of our 30 Day Cleanse. Giving up flesh, animal protein, dairy and all animal products has numerous health benefits. If done right the vegan diet can be easier on your digestion, healthier for your body, and better for the planet. There are tips to follow to make sure you are doing it in the healthiest way possible and make it an easy transition.
Preparing for a Vegan Diet doesnt require much additional work besides adjusting your shopping list. The most important thing to remember is when you remove the animal protien from your diet replace it with plant based protein and NOT processed foods, meat substitutes, excessive grains, sugars or junk food. The best plant based protein options to replace animal proteins are Lentils, Beans, Quinoa and Fermented Soy. Its also important to make sure your increase vegetables and other plant based foods higher in protiens like Green Peas, Spinach, Broccoli, Beans, Nuts like almonds, cashews, & pistachios. Be very cautious of not over doing the grains particularly wheat, gluten, white flour etc. Many meat alternatives are wheat and gluten based and can be terrible for weight loss and digestion. Try to refrain from eating soy based meat alternatives and a lot of the processed "Vegan" products on the market they really are not very good for you but more or less preying on the consumer. Tempeh is a safe form but stay away from Tofu and soy milk.
Because meat tends to be pricier then other foods you will save $$$ on this diet particularly if you choose NOT to spend the extra money on meat alternatives. Spend the saved money on Organic produce as well as nuts and seeds. Eating out is still an option and there are many amazing vegan and vegetarian resteraunts so save for some of those splurges. If it is within your budget you can always use a food delivery service and refine your dietary needs as well as variety but make sure you explain some of the above dietary needs like Soy Free, Gluten Free, Wheat Free etc.
Read more about what it means to truly go Vegan often people mistake it with being vegetarian which is not the case. To truly be Vegan you must give up any and all foods, casings, clothing, products, or supplements that use animal in anyway that includes dairy, animal protein, certain supplements, etc. Get ready to read labels alot of meat substitutes like to use things like casein or whey, gelatin and natural red 4 all of which are not truly vegan. On these Labels is where you will also find the hidden ingredients like Wheat, White Flour, or Soy so keep an eye out for labels or better yet try to eat as few packaged foods as possible.
